Book

What's left to do on my book?

The next milestone with my book is the writing residency where I have pledged to finish my book, which really means have a complete manuscript written and in 1 document so that it can be read, reviewed, reworked, etc., but essentially be in it’s final narrative format.

This is a super-detailed description of the writing process which only people who are writers and have embarked on a manuscript-level document will understand.

To everyone else, I say that I am getting the complete manuscript ready and I have already written 3 drafts of this same book.

So I named the file: DRAFT 4_WIP.docx.

But in order to get the parts of draft 3 that I finished and the ones from draft 2 that I didn’t get to or haven’t written yet…I need to organize them.

That’s the sexy part of the writing or revision process that doesn’t look like my butt is typing away in a chair, looking whistfully at the sun setting over the French Alps.

Naw, it’s a lot of file moving around and saving and trying to remember my organization method from two or three years ago…

So, in celebration of trying to tell you how much of my book is left to be done and really just needing to visualize it myself, I created the following charts:

<Manuscript Status

This is more granular — you can see the steps that I need to do for each chapter. It’s a lot. I am looking forward to getting back to know my writing and my friends who I wrote about during the time period that my book takes place. But…woah! SO MUCH.

<Manuscript Status

Another way to look at book progress is linear — I’m working to get this chart all green.

Once this chart is green, I will be ready to work on DRAFT 4 during my writing residency.
